Traditional and Roth IRAs do offer penalty-free withdrawals
for higher education expenses, but you may still need to
pay taxes on those withdrawals. In contrast, withdrawals
from Coverdell Education Savings Account are both tax-free
and penalty free if used for qualified education expenses.
NOTE: Effective April 1, 2006, Share Insurance
coverage has increased from $100,000 to $250,000 for
retirement accounts such as IRA’s. Share insurance
coverage remains the same at $100,000 for other types
of shares. |
